Russian attack damages National Academy of Sciences building in Kyiv

On Monday, September 28, Russian forces struck a building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the historic center of Kyiv. According to preliminary information, the impact caused a fire; rescuers are at the scene extinguishing the blaze and searching for people who may have remained inside.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that one woman was killed in the attack on the non-residential building. The number of injured rose to four people, three of whom were hospitalized by medics. In total, since the start of the day, 14 people have been injured in Kyiv as a result of Russian shelling, with six currently in hospitals.

Education and Science Minister Andriy Butenko noted that one of the ministry's buildings was also damaged in the attack, with no casualties among its staff. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that a rescue operation is ongoing and stressed that Russia will definitely face consequences for this strike.

According to eyewitnesses, the strike on the NAS building occurred during the lunch break while employees were inside. People who were on the second floor were evacuated using a ladder. All necessary services continue to work at the scene.
