Odesa bids farewell to captain killed in drone strike on ship
In Odesa, a farewell ceremony was held for deep-sea captain Oleksii Sydoruk, who died on 23 September after a Russian drone struck a vessel in the Black Sea. Colleagues remembered him as a brave, decisive and responsible captain who ordered the crew to take cover while he remained on the bridge.
On 6 October, a farewell ceremony was held in Odesa for deep-sea captain Oleksii Sydoruk, who died on 23 September as a result of a Russian drone strike on a commercial vessel in the Black Sea.
According to colleagues, the captain ordered the crew to move to shelter while he remained on the bridge. They remembered him as a brave, decisive and responsible person for whom crew safety was always a priority.
It was previously reported that a commercial vessel flying the flag of the Marshall Islands and loaded with rapeseed oil sustained damage in the Russian drone attack. A fire broke out in the superstructure, killing one person and injuring seven others.
