Steel's share of Ukraine GDP may fall to near zero after plant strikes

In September, four major Ukrainian steel enterprises were attacked with Russian ballistic missiles, and three of them halted operations. The hardest hit were Zaporizhstal, Kametstal, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih and the Dnipro Metallurgical Plant.

The idled enterprises accounted for about 90% of steel production in Ukraine. More than 30,000 jobs are directly and indirectly linked to them.

The contribution of metallurgy to Ukraine's GDP could fall from a pre-war 10.3% to nearly zero. Zaporizhstal has been struck by 17 ballistic missiles since August, and 8 employees were killed.
