Russia Launches Massive Strike on Ukraine's Energy Infrastructure

In Kyiv, as a result of the night attack on September 30, two women — aged 46 and 95 — residents of a private house in the Sviatoshyn district, were killed. In total, five people were injured in the city, and two were hospitalised. Private houses in the Podil and Sviatoshyn districts were damaged, and drone debris falls were recorded in the Holosiiv and Shevchenko districts.

In Vyshhorod, Kyiv region, a 14-year-old boy from a family of internally displaced persons was killed due to a destroyed house. His parents were hospitalised with injuries; his sister was not harmed. Rescuers saved three people from under the rubble, including a child with an acute stress reaction, a man with a shrapnel wound to the head, and a woman with a leg injury.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said the main target of the strike was the energy sector of the capital and the Kyiv region. In total, five people were killed across the country as a result of the attack, including a child, and 14 were wounded. He also confirmed damage to residential buildings and a grocery supermarket in Ivankovychi and a strike on a warehouse building in Kyiv, where one person was killed.

Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky said Russia has moved to massive strikes on energy infrastructure, and that such a combined attack occurred for the first time since the end of the last heating season. Ukrenergo reported power outages in Kyiv, Kyiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions. Emergency restoration work is ongoing.

According to the Air Force, overnight Russia used anti-ship missiles, ballistic missiles, and 188 strike drones. Air defence forces neutralised five ballistic missiles and 155 drones. Impacts were recorded at 18 locations, with the main strike direction being Kyiv region.
